Why does my cat arch his back and hiss when i spray hair spray?

The sound of hairspray (especially in a pressurized can) acutally has a similar sound to a cat's hiss. Your baby may just think this is another kitty invading their territory. Turn on the vent in your bathroom and close the door when you spray. This will help keep the stress off your cat when you fix your hair. Or, if you are using a pressurized can of spray, try changing to a pump bottle and see if that works. This helped with my cat when she hissed at my hairspray.

Good luck!

Cats have wonderful hearing much better than ours.To him your can sounds more like an arch rival and he gives his response by hissing .

maybe you have a ghost in the can....or you can always stop spraying it in his/her face........

It's probably a combination of the sound and the smell of the spray. A lot of cats will kind of squint and cringe when you spray something around them.

If it isn't a pump kind of spray then it probably sounds like another cat hissing at him. I bet if you sprayed say air freshener in the air he'd do it then too.

when I spray anything, hairspay, airfreshener, whatever.. , my cat gets scared and runs away. So they hiss when they are scared of something or just really dislike it.
