Using heat protection spray before straightening hair?

the directions on my heat defence spray say that I should spray it onto my hair directly before straightening but the spray wets my hair and then when i use the irons my hair seems to sizzle. It seems strange to use straighteners on damp hair and i'm worried that i might be damaging my hair by doing this?

Spray the heat defense about 1 foot away from your head then wait about five minutes before you begin to straighten. This has happened to me, and after asking salon people about it, it definitely worked and no more sizzling!

wait until the spray dries or use a pomade for hair straitening instead. those tend to work better.

if it's sizzling then it probably is damaging your hair. try spraying the protection spray further away and using less of it. otherwise you could just wait till your hair dried.

i use the sunsilk therma shine detangling heat protection spray. i just spray it on, comb it, and heat style. my hair never sizzles. this spray i can use right away.

for some sprays, though, you might have to blow dry your hair first. or just wait untilk the spray is dried onto your hair. when your hair sizzles, the "life" is literally being sucked out of it.

good luck.

try holding the bottle farther away from your hair. I use Treseme Heat Defense Spray and It helps. I also have a Revlon Wet to Straight Hair Straightener so if your hair is still damp or gets damp it dries and striaghtens it. They only cost $25 and i use it everyday. The straightener has a steamer in it and teflon covered plats. No matter what straightener or spray you use it still damages you hair. Sorry:(

Your hair shouldn't be very damp when your flat iorning it. For best results you should use a blow dryer to dry it out compleetly then straighten it. Using good salon products will protect your hair. Try Redken Heat Glide. It might cost alot, but it's worth it.
